How much PLANNING TIME am I entitled to? (Article 13.050)
- 240 minutes at the end of school year
- The minimum block of planning time is 20 minutes. Should you receive a block less than 20 minutes, log the entire time as lost in the office.
How much SUPERVISION must I do? (Article 13.071)
The maximum amount of supervision is as follows:
- for the School Year is 80 minutes ALL IN.
- ALL IN includes, but is not limited to, regular assigned duty, inclement duty, and emergency duty. Examples include, but are not limited to, recess duty, lunch duty, washroom duty, before or after school duty, bus duty, hall duty, etc.
- Any time that you are asked to perform a duty that is above and beyond ninety minutes, whether scheduled or unexpected please speak to your Association Rep. with regards to completing a Supervision Log.
When are the QECO Submission Deadlines?
A Teacher, who before the beginning of the school year, has met all the conditions required for a certificate of a higher level, is entitled to an adjustment in salary as of the school term commencing either September 1st or January 1st provided the following conditions are met:
- To qualify for a September 1st adjustment, the Teacher must have completed course requirements prior to September 1st, and must submit to the Human Resources Department by December 31st of that year a revised QECO evaluation or QECO acknowledgment card.
- To qualify for a January 1st adjustment, the Teacher must have completed course requirements prior to January 1st, and must submit to the Human Resources Department April 30th of that year a revised QECO evaluation or QECO acknowledgment card.
The Board has the discretion to extend the deadline in extenuating circumstances caused by the QECO procedures, where the Teacher has provided the Board with the evidence that QECO has received the relevant information prior to December 31st for a September 1st adjustment and prior to April 1st for a January 1st adjustment ( CA Article 4.027)
What are my duties as an Association Representative?
It shall be the duty of association representatives:
- To act as the direct liaison between the executive and the members of the unit by:
- retaining on a yearly basis, the minutes of the unit executive meetings, which shall be available to all members;
- ensuring distribution of unit information items to each member;
- positively communicating in a timely manner all activities and policies of the Unit;
- informing members of available services and informing the executive when such services may be required;
- maintaining current information;
- attending inservices and if unable to attend, sending their alternate or if he/she is unable, sending another staff member;
- being a member of their Local School Staffing Advisory Committee (LSSAC) and submitting minutes and any other reports as requested to the unit office;
- conducting OECTA business at a meeting time which is separate from the designated staff meeting.
- To act as a liaison between the provincial executive and the members of the unit by:
- ensuring distribution of OECTA and OTF publications and correspondence to each member;
- notifying the appropriate authority regarding shortages therein;
- actively promoting the association and its services among members.
- being aware of and supporting the code of professionalism as outlined in Section 18 (1) (b) (and other sections) of the Regulations made under the Teaching Profession Act.
